Bed & Breakfast Book

Maria – April 2011 (Al’s)

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves over the Easter break. Your place is very beautiful. There is nothing that you can improve on, because its perfect. We’ve been to a few places on the tablelands over the years, and this is the first place that we have agreed that we will be coming back to. We loved how the place smelt when you first walked in – a nice fresh clean smell and we loved all of the decor and furniture in the house. We loved everything about it. There was plenty to keep us busy, but what we ended up doing was having a restful, peaceful break and recharged our batteries.

Donna – April 2011 (Al’s)

Just wanting to let you know we had a lovely stay at Al's. The kids just loved the possums, they were beautiful and so quiet. We certainly enjoyed the peace & quiet and will definitely book again for our next trip up to Tinaroo.

Sheree – April 2011 (Percy’s)

My parents and I throughly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending it to people. I could not make the normal TV channels work as the remote control did not have any batteries in it and I had forgotten to bring salt and the salt container there had run out but those things were very miner. thank you for a lovely place to holiday.

Heather – November 2010 (Al’s)

Graeme and I had an incredible time. The house was absolutely amazing and we loved sitting on the balcony watching all the wildlife. Mamma possum and her little one came to visit us last night and stayed for about an hour. The house was impeccably clean and my partner went gaga over your huge bath towels. He also was extremely impressed with the coffee table and actually wanted me to ask you where you purchased it from - he thought it was just amazing. Thank you also for the wine, that was a lovely touch. I have put it in the fridge at home for a special occasion.

Sandy - September 2010 (Al’s)

We had a fantastic time - wish we had been able to stay longer so I could have gotten into all those books. Unfortunately we both had a belly bug which we had brought with us but the down time was very welcome. The boys had a great time and absolutely loved the possums.
Next time it will be a longer stay.

Jamie-Lee - September 2010 (Al’s)

We really enjoyed our stay, it was much more relaxing and comfortable then we had imagined. It was nice to watch DVD's and have BBQ breakfasts everyday before socializing with our friends from the wedding in the evenings. The sheets were so soft and delicate, the kitchen was set up for such convenience and the lounge room reminded me of home. Everything was perfect! thank you!
Upper Coomera

Nicole – September 2010 (Percy’s)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your cottage, it was just what we were hoping for. We loved how family friendly it was, it was very inviting for our children with so much for them to do and you supplied everything we needed. It was a great place just to sit for a few days and while away the hours, as well as central enough to do the site seeing we wanted to. I only wish that we visited in winter so we could make use of the cosy fireplace! It was the perfect place to call home for a week!

The only recommendation we have is the bed. The double bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Possibly a new mattress is due? The bunks were great though and you supplied plenty of comfy bedding.

Thank you very much for the wonderful hospitality, we definitely hope to return one day and will recommend you to our friends for sure. Thanks for the wine too, a lovely touch!

Michelle – July 2010 (Al’s)

The peace and quiet.  We especially enjoyed watching and hearing the brolgas fly over of an afternoon as they headed off to bed!  The coffee and wine that was left for us was a lovely touch.  We especially appreciated the lit fire on our arrival.  It made our stay a special one!  We also made use of the fishing nets and managed to catch red claw in the dam.

Townsville

Anne-Louise – July 2010 (Percy’s)

We had a wonderful time staying at the lodge. It was a great base for us to commute to the Under 13 Girls Hockey Championships being held in Atherton.

One thing that I will advise is that your great information on how to get to the lodge does not tell people which way they are coming from Cairns. We came up the Gillies Range and got all the way into Atherton before we realized that we had passed the turnoff. Maybe the directions could have a note saying they are directions for coming from Mareeba. It didn't cause us much trouble though.

When we return to Cairns/Tablelands area we would be more than happy to stay at your lodge.

A short note to say how much we enjoyed our short stay at Al's Place.  The setting Is delightful and the house superably fitted out.  In all Al's Place exceeded our wildest expectations.

Mission Beach

Melissa – April 2010 (Percy’s)

We are still dreaming of our time Thank you for making our stay very comfortable. It was a real surprise to find a bottle of wine, slippers and toiletry packs!! The kids really thought that was a great touch! (not the wine, of course) I made a point of packing some of our favourite board games but then again you outdid our expectations. The kids couldn’t wait to get stuck in and start playing the many games you had, and as for the huge bucket of lego….how did you know my boys were such a fan??? I’d also spent $50 buying some magazines to take with me, but found I didn’t need to. I ended up spending the time reading your books and copying out the recipes from your magazines.

I must say, our visitors were very well behaved and allowed us to get up and personal with them to take some close photos. I’m talking about the wildlife!! The possum liked the garlic bread we offered and the wallabies just stood and stared. I haven’t had frogs visit me in the toilet since I was a kid, so that brought back many memories….and the black gecko was very unique.

We look forward to telling all our friends about your fabulous ‘get-a-away’ home, although I’m not sure I want to tell them, as I might keep it a secret just for me.?!!

I met your caretaker/cleaner yesterday and he was very nice and obviously does a thorough job. Certainly an asset to have someone who keeps the place so well looked after.

Anyhow, you have a wonderful home and we loved it. Thank you.

Carly – April 2010 (Al’s)

We are still dreaming of our time up at your wonderful place!! Back to the grind now for us (not the kids though – school holidays)!! Was so lovely to have nothing to do for all the right reasons!! Makes us wonder how we get so busy!! Our little cocker Spaniel was a little naughty the first day and ran off for a look at a wallaby however we got her back on the lead quick smart with a big smack on her backside and in disgrace for the rest of the day. No problems for the rest of the stay from her! The possum was lovely – we fed him fruit which he loved. I believe he had a piece of chocolate on Easter Sunday evening so he was loving it! No redclaw to speak of or fish! I think the cloud cover kept them all asleep and not in the mood for biting! Had a ball and really enjoyed our stay.

What a gorgeous home – you should be proud!
Cairns

Craige and Llana – March 2010 (Al’s)

We absolutely loved our stay!! The only problem was that it was too short. Everything was fine. The directions to get to your property were clear. The key box was easy to locate. It was a great couple of days for the kids in the “bush “ and seeing the possums, pademelons and kangaroos. The complimentary bottle of wine was well received J Thank you. Many thanks for sharing your home with us.

Danielle – December 2009 (Percy's)

Our stay at Tinaroo Haven Holiday Lodge was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. We had everything we could possibly need and the accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The lodge is gorgeous and quiet. It has everything we expected and more., It was one of the nicest places we stayed at in Australia and the price can’t be beat. A+ for sure. I would recommend it to anyone. That you for the wine and fruit. That was a definite bonus.

I have been meaning to send you a quick email to thank you for the great stay we had last month ... We didn’t catch any fish!!! But everyone said how we wished we planned to stay longer. The houses were wonderful. And the wildlife was great!

Diane– December 2009 (Al’s)

Hi Tania,
My friend Kellie and I both enjoyed our stay immensely.  Who needs TV when you have Mamma and the bubba possums to keep you entertained at night.  I think I am now having possum withdrawal! I have attached a classic photo that I took one night of them smiling.  I'm not surprised at them smiling after all the goodies that they ate loll. I noticed on our last day that the paddymelon that came every night and morning had a moving pouch!  We were so excited I think I took 50 photos of a pouch but with no luck of seeing her little bob.

We had a bit of trouble locating the lodge at first, but that was due to me being in a hurry to leave and only printing out the first page of your email with directions!  We certainly were impressed with the cooking facilities and the books, DVDs and games that were available! We even managed to go for a walk down the back to the lake.

Thankyou for the bottle of wine.  I only realised when I got home that it had my sisters quote on the label about her stay with the cheeky possums.  She was the one that told me I should come stay, as she herself had a great time.  She’s proud as punch that her name is on the label.

Upon leaving, we were not sure if there was recycling or not so we left the bottles separate and the rest of the rubbish together near the bins, I hope that was ok.  We also got a bit bogged in the gravel at the front with my car being front wheel drive and being on a slope.  I would have fixed the mark left up, but we were in a bit of a hurry to get back to Cairns for my friends flight. ( I thought we were not going to get out for a minute there loll)

We will be back to visit again soon!  Thank you for providing such a lovely sanctuary to escape to!  Well done!  Looking forward to seeing more siblings to the possum family.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tinaroo Haven Lodge. It was absolutely fantastic!!!!!! There is truly nothing we can complain about, exept for the fact that we wanted to stay longer but had to come back!!! Can’t wait to visit again, we’ve already decided to go back as soon as it suits both families!
Thank you for the girls T shirts, what a lovely gesture. Oh, and the Possum Drop …. how original thanks so much, I feel to sorry to open it! The Possums were SO SWEET, I wished I could take them home …... and they love rusks to :)
Loved all the books from South Africa, I smiled when I picked up the one about Diana and her new life; when I read the back page noticed the price tag .. CNA - Ahh, you made me homesick!!
Thanks again for sharing your piece of heaven with us.
The games thingy for the kid was such a hit: the one that’s in box form with draws with all sorts of games. It’s fantastic, they played chess and backgammon etc.

Kerry McG– October 2009 (Percy’s)

We had a lovely time at the lodge just what we needed, everything was set up perfect.  The only recommendation I have is that the mattress in the main bedroom may need replaced we found it very uncomfortable and hard.  I would be interested in renting the house out over the Christmas holiday.

Jim – September 2009 (Percy’s)

We had a very relaxing week and loved the house and yard. The animals were great and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing our meals on the verandah with them. We would be pleased to recommend this lovely place to others. Just a couple of minor issues were – the toaster was broken and the knives weren’t sharp or appropriate for cutting meat or vege’s. Also, was there handy access to the lake? If there was it would be helpful to point out the way to guests. All your other touches including the apparel and the wine (which was a very nice drop) was much appreciated. Thanks for your great service and pleasant helpful approach you were a pleasure to deal with.

Wayne and Joanne – September 2009 (Percy’s)

We had a fantastic, relaxing and enjoyable time at the Tinaroo Haven Holiday Lodge. We had every intention of filling out your visitor book, but in the end forgot – sorry! The place is surprisingly well set up …. we didn’t want for anything as you had provided it all – so thank you. Our children loved it there also. The wallabies were a big attraction …. although our children are not quiet enough and the wallabies didn’t stay around for a very long time! We caught lots of red claw, and were able to go out in our boat every day. It’s a very relaxing part of the world! It was exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely be back.

Tim & Akiko – July 2009 (Percy's)

To put it simply, it was absolutely enjoyable from the moment we pulled up the drive way. So relaxing and peaceful. Well equipped and comfortable. Our children, my mother-in-law and ourselves truly enjoyed the great family holiday experience. To use the phrase, “How’s the serenity!” The disappointment was having to leave!
Cairns

Brad and Emma – July 2009 (Percy's)

The lodge was excellent, the little ones had fun and facilities had everything we required. Having moved across from Perth it was nice to spend some days (though relatively close) to see some of the region which we had not seen previously. The location was central and other than not been able to take them strawberry picking (starts next month) the Steam Train ran (which I believe can be a hit and miss as it tends to break down a wee bit) and the other places we had on our list were visited. If it helps, we will certainly book your property again.

Very nature and in time staying. Cosy accommodation and nice sleeping with real duvet nice dining space with fire place great for everybody. We did have a very nice peaceful time in Tinaroo Lodge. We needed this friendly nature and comfortable atmosphere that we discovered in Tinaroo. Very in time and cosy staying.

Helen – June 2009 (Al's)

Our stay was fabulous, enjoyed the whole weekend. Feeding the possums in the evenings was my highlight, cheeky rascals they love drinking red wine out of a glass, well trained little creatures. In the mornings along come the wallabies and guinea fowls, the wild life is just amazing.

You have done an excellent job with the setup of the property, each house has their own privacy and also caters for a larger group. Everything you could possibly require for a relaxing getaway, you have thought of, from the Austar to DVDs (catering for all taste) to board games and cards, no time to get bored. The collection of books – AMAZING!!! Would love to stay on for a few more days, better than any five star hotel.

Enjoyed the stay so much, thought it a good place to bring the family for Christmas but see you are already booked out for this year., Will have to get in early for the next. Definitely, will be coming back before then. Have recommended it to quite a few of my friends and told them that they would not be disappointed as the accommodation and experience is well worth it.

Once again, thank you for a magnificent weekend.

We all had a fantastic time at the lodge and the kids got to feed the possums and the wallabies it was a great place to get away and enjoy the surroundings.  We were totally amazed at how self contained the house was, all we needed was food and cloths.  It was a perfect getaway for all.  We will be back to stay but next time we will rent both homes and stay a little longer.  Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home.

We had a great time during our stay. As you would be aware, we were moved from percys to al's. It was fantastic! We would certainly come back and recommend the place to our friends and family.   We did have one moment where we were cornered by the possums on the balcony, who were most unimpressed we were heading out for dinner rather than feeding them. So much so, one nipped me on the back of the foot!

Dear Tanja,  we enjoyed the week at your lodge very much and we will make some advertising for you on our private homepage www.sanseira.de.  Give us some time to publish our next travel report with great photos.  I will send you an email then it will be online.  Unfortunately we have it at the moment only in English language but we will try to make the current on in “Bavarian” English too.  Your service and your instructions at the lodge are great, we missed nothing and we were very happy to find already food and drinks at the kitchen.  At the evenings we enjoyed the visit of the animals (kangaroos, geckos and the possum family).  The location is very quiet and a must for all people who love the nature.  We hope that you will increase your business with our help.  If you ever come to Germany (Augsburg close to Munich), give us a note.  We will be happy to show you and your family our country.

We've returned home relaxed and recharged. As no doubt you've been told a million times...what a lovely place. We very much enjoyed it. The self-containment was superb and the home very comfortable. The lack of bond or credit card details and the quality of furnishings shows a trust in people you rarely see these days. It also makes the guest feel good about their choice in accommodation. Again I thank you for allowing me a brief but precious escape from a very hectic life.

Carlie – May 2008 (Al’s Look-out)

We had a lovely time thank you :o)  It was wonderfully cool, which meant my hubby and I got to sleep in past 7am because it was too cold for the kids to get out of bed!  hehe...

The boys had great fun walking down the drive *many* times a day looking for the "wobbolies", and your resident possum probably has a tummy ache from the amount of apple and sultanas the kids insisted on lining up on the verandah rails each night.  My eldest is doing his class talk on how possums like apple and sultanas but not sausage.

The house was magnificent, what a beautiful spot, so peaceful.

Christof and Katharina – February/March 2008 (Al’s Look-out)

We loved to stay in Tinaroo Haven Lodge again very much.  What a pleasure to be in Tinaroo Havens Lodge at last !  What a nice welcome to see the fridge is stuffed - we had been shopping at Smithfield just to be prepared. We especially liked the fresh fruit platter.  Inside Tinaroo Haven Lodge was mostly as we remembered it to be 7 years ago (Back then, we liked the huge table made from mango wood so much, that Collin recommended the craftsmen in Tinaroo Waters to us. He made a smaller one for us that we actually took home with us). The architecture, the grounded wooden floors, the spaciousness of the living room, the balcony looking into the trees and over the grass with all the wildlife - wonderful.  We and our kids loved it, we especially enjoyed watching the wallabies (the kids were frantic), kookaburras and possums as well as breakfast and dinner on the balcony (we used the barbecue twice).  We did see far more than on our last visit. We made day trips to Kuranda three times (Koala Garden (very good), Skyrail (outstanding again, just like 7 years ago), Safari Park(very good)  an to the Waterfall Circuit (Millaa Millaa is still as good as in our memories, or even better), had a swim in the pool in Atherton (very interesting, not a tourist destination, so we saw a bit of the "typical" life) and visited the coffee works in Mareeba (great, our kids tasted chocolate beans in heaps!) on our departure.

Cassandra – January/February 2008 (Percy’s Hide-away and Al’s Look-out)

What a magnificent place.  The timber craftsmanship in Al’s is most impressive and the situation allowed us to completely unwind and relax.   We found both houses to have everything we could possibly need;  you have obviously put a lot of thought into ensuring your guests are comfortable with all amenities.   Finding your welcome platter in the fridge was a nice touch and meant that we had some provisions for breakfast and tea in the morning before we had to venture into Atherton to stock up.    We loved the vast varieties of birds around both Percy’s and Al’s and also enjoyed seeing the kangaroos on the lawn in the mornings and evenings.  We had two highlights;  the one was the possums who joined us for dinner almost every evening on the balconies giving us great entertainment and the other was seeing a magnificent 7ft goanna roaming freely on your property as if he was the sole owner – we saw him a number of times and reached the conclusion that he obviously lives there!   Everything was just perfect and we could not have hoped for more when we booked this holiday.  We will certainly be back and will not hesitate to recommend your accommodation to our friends and family.

Tammy – January 2008 (Percy’s Hide-away)

Thank you for the use of your little piece of heaven!!  You certainly have a gorgeous hideaway in a dream location. We will certainly recommend you to our friends, if that is ok ...  Everything was perfect and we appreciated just how "self contained" it really was. Having some basics in the fridge on arrival and detergent was great!!   Thank you so much! You certainly have something very special - at Tinaroo Haven Lodge - and we wish you the very best. (The boys loved seeing the kangaroos around the yard!) If we are ever that way again (I have no doubt), we hope there is a vacancy. :)

Danielle and Stuart – December 2007/January 2008 (Al’s Look-out)

Firstly I have to comment on how beautiful the lodge was, all of the timber was stunning and the location was perfect. We look forward to one day being able to return (with out our little ones..!) the only downfall was that it wasn't particularly child friendly and in saying that, we should have checked a few things before hand....so if you are thinking of making it a little more child friendly some suggestions would be- child locks on the cupboards in the kitchen, maybe a permanent gate at the top of the stairs( as the one provided didn't actually attach safely) a mat under the dining table(to stop the chairs scratching the beautiful floors) and locks on the bathrooms to be able to be unlocked somehow from the outside...the only other thing I can think of was that their wasn't enough washing liquid and wash cloths for a week stay(and that's really scratching the bottom of the barrel!!)  So thankyou for having us and good luck in the future...we'll definitely recommend your accommodation to friends..

What a peaceful stay with just us and the wildlife who came to visit.  The wallabies and possums arrive like clock-work and the possums ate from our hands. Will definitely be back when we need to re-charge those batteries. Thanks so much for making us feel so “at home”.

We had a great time at Tinaroo. The accommodation was fantastic and I could not think of anything to improve things. We sat outside every evening listening to the birds, in fact we spent a lot of time sitting on the balcony. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were great and there was plenty of good lighting. I find that some places never have enough lights, or that the lights are too dim and not in the right place!!! Your provision of games, books and the great selection of DVDs was also a great plus. All in all we have a wonderful time.  We met Richard and he was very helpful in telling us about interesting things to do in the area as well.

My parents and myself enjoyed the place very much. It was a perfect place to enjoy some peace and have a break in our 3 weeks touring holidays in Queensland. We particularly appreciated how welcoming the place was arranged when we arrived there the first day (breakfast hamper, bath robes, etc).   I met Penny and Richard briefly on our third day, it was very friendly and they both provided useful advises about the activities around.  It is definitely a place I would recommend to friends, and hope to be back there too.

This has been the most memorable part of an extraordinarily good holiday. I should particularly like to thank Christina for providing our boys with an exciting day out whilst John and I enjoyed a rare moment of peace together. Kate O’Brien. (note from owner – Tinaroo Haven Holiday Lodge does not offer childminding and this was a private arrangement between the guest and the caretaker/tenant directly). I love it, its nice and peaceful – Jack O’Brien. I had a lovely time here and I liked living with Jasper – Cormac O’Brien. (note from owner – Jasper is a young wallaby born and living on the property). Thank you – a wonderful place and a wonderful location – John O’Brien.

Michael and Tania, We stayed at the lodge Sunday and Monday nights, 22nd and 23rd April. It was excellent - an exclusive relaxing upmarket getaway. The swamp wallabies were on the lawn when we arrived, and the possums came late at night. The kids had a great time. Thanks.

No traffic sounds, that was the first thing to hit us, so peaceful, which made the way to a most relaxing stay.  The craftmanship of the timber embraced us and made us one with nature.  The wallabys, possums and many variety of birds and the bush setting, plus the fire place, took us away from the hussle and bussle of Cairns.  Thank you Cristina and glad we brought our jumpers.

Loved the cool, love the birds and animals shared. But sad about the fishing, got too lazy. The homely touches made the difference. Expanded our general knowledge with the games.

The Haven is aptly named isn't it, so peaceful and I have to say I love the timber everywhere...always my favourite and so much more suitable to the Tablelands, I always feel as if I am enveloped in a warm, cosy cloak and prefer it to stark modern decor. We weren't home much which was a shame as I could have easily passed a rainy afternoon browsing through the many books you have filled the Haven with and watched a movie or two as well.  Thanks again Tania and we'll let our friends know it's a great place to stay not only for couples but for a group or a family too.

What a wonderful retreat! The wildlife, the bush, the scenery around the lake and the tranquility of the place combine to provide a most pleasurable atmosphere. Its a pity we didn't take the opportunity to stay longer and really settle in. We'll just have to come back, likely with a few friends, and really get to take advantage of the lodge & its surroundings.

This is the place I dreamed of when planning for vacation one month ago in cold and snowy New York State.  Will miss the wallabies!

We have loved spending some time in your truly beautiful lodge. The timber work at every turn is so superb. You have thought of every small detail to make this a home and the animals in the garden just make it. I thank you too Cristina. She made our stay all the better with her welcome and her willingness to share her personal wildlife with us. Many thanks.

Suzanne - These couple of days have been very relaxing and the noise of the local wildlife have been a great touch especially leaving some food scraps on the railing and watching a possum come and feed upon them.

Andrea - Beautiful, relaxing and peaceful. Wildlife was truly amazing. For the very brave you can venture down the straight down Foster road with 60 head of cattle - bulls all lined up at the fence watching your every move. For the cowards just venture down to Pelican point.

What a magnificent place.  A masterpiece of timber craftmanship showing all the treasures of the rainforest.  Kangaroos on the lawn for breakfast and red claw from the dam for lunch, and then the possums joining for desert.  A lovely wood fire glows to end the days with good friends and a long bottle of wine.
